The Vagus (wandering) nerve oversees many bodily functions, such as heart rate, mood, immune responses and digestion. There is much research to suggest that a high vagal tone is linked to healthy emotional and physical well-being. A low vagal tone has been associated with low moods, inflammation, heart attacks and heart rate arrhythmia and other conditions.

Reflexology can help to stimulate and tone the vagal nerve. Manipulation of the vagal nerve reflex helps to bring the body back into the parasympathetic state inducing relaxation, 'rest and digest' and repair. Other relaxation techniques are hugely beneficial such as breathing techniques, yoga and meditation.
